Britannia certainly “Ruled the waves” on Saturday as we regally entertained a most appreciative and responsive audience, when we presented our latest concert in Celebration of the 90th Birthday of Queen Elizabeth 11. The songs, readings and poems paid tribute to the Queen’s long and interesting life, touching on many aspects which we know are important to her; her love of horses, her dedication to duty, her inclusion of all her subjects and her pleasure in being ‘Our Queen‘.
As usual, we performed with enthusiasm and enjoyment, presenting a varied and challenging program, showing a dedication to entertainment, through music, word and song – accompanied in some instances with relevant props and drama!!!
Support of The Prince’s Trust, which is celebrating it’s 40th Anniversary, was central to the evening’s concert and through Trudy Roberts, who is Programme Executive, the audience were made aware of the real difference The Prince’s Trust has made to many people in our local area. A subset donation will be made to The Trust at one of our rehearsals within the next few weeks.
From all the “flag wavers” to the “Union Jack’ and ‘Patriot’ bow-tie’ wearers, the evening left us all with a feeling of pride in our Queen and in being a valued member of the fantastic Meridian Singers.
Thank you Michael and Gill for your belief in us, the never ending challenge and support you give us, your humour and of course, to each and every member who respond to these throughout the year. Thank you Sharon also for the fantastic celebratory birthday cake. A real centre piece during the interval!!!
