Saturday March 18th Music Workshop with Val Whitlock

How privileged were we to have Val as our guest workshop leader on this Mid-March Saturday afternoon; Singer, vocal animateur, choral director, singing teacher and author. Val has extensive experience in cabaret, music theatre, jazz, pop/rock, folk and classical music. Her enthusiasm and humour were infectious.

We all benefitted from that day all those years ago when Michael and Val became friends through their love of music – a friendship that led to Val traveling to Louth and leading an inspiring, fun and absolutely fantastic workshop. Three unique hours in which we warmed up using many and varied voice training techniques, (the faces we pulled, the noises we made, the ‘silent laughter —-!!!!), where we were encouraged to sing through listening and repeating, where we were stretched to use the sight singing skills some of us perhaps weren’t aware we had! As for the ‘Master Class’ – absolutely amazing!! We no doubt all had differing ‘visualisations’ as we sang ‘Ain’t We Got Fun’ but the overall effect this simple technique had on our singing was inspirational.

I am sure we shall take the songs learned with Val and include them in our ever growing repertoire.
The feedback from everyone was 100% positive and the cry was for ‘more, more, more!’ A motivational, wonderful, inspiring, informative, fun and friendship filled afternoon.

Val thought we had something special as a choir, so friendly and welcoming, with a huge enthusiasm for singing. Her words to Michael were that we ‘oozed singing’. Thank you Michael and Gill for always encouraging this and to Val for recognising it in us.
